While The Last Jedi may have been a huge critical and box office success, it proved very divisive among fans. That controversy won't be influencing what JJ Abrams does with Star Wars: Episode IX though

Think of a major Star Wars character... any character! Well, chances are that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning a TV series about them if the latest batch of rumours are to be believed!

Visceral’s Star Wars game is deader than Emperor Palpatine’s love life after he became Darth Scrotum in Revenge of the Sith. Digging an even deeper hole for themselves in the eyes of fans, EA pulled the plug on the game and called it a day. It’s a pity, because this was the game that at least sounded like it would be a delightful antithesis to the lacklustre pair of multiplayer shooters that EA had released over the last couple of years.

It appears Star Wars producers like telling stories in threes, as yet another trilogy is in the works.

As is usually the cast, Lucasfilm and Disney have been totally tight-lipped about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. But now some details may have leaked out of their seemingly airtight production.

The decade-long EA partnership with Disney has, to date, resulted in very little. There are a few mobile games, and two Battlefront titles, but just about every intriguing game set in the Star Wars universe has been canned. It’s left many wondering if Disney might be fed up with how fruitless the partnership has ben, and if we might get somebody else – like Disney themselves - making Star Wars games in the near future. The answer, however, is a very firm no.

The success of Star Wars doesn’t just come from its cinematic source material though. It’s the canny positioning of this franchise and its ability to evolve into other forms of media that have helped it emerge as a pop culture phenomenon. You look at the video game side of the equation, and this was a brand that was a recipe for success when handled correctly. Which explains the deliciousness of the amazing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

There’s no sugar-coating one indisputable fact in the gaming industry: EA’s handling of the franchise, has been nothing more than a colossal f***-up of note. Five years into the contract, and the sole provider of Star Wars games on current console and PC platforms has managed to churn out…two games. Now granted, making video games isn’t easy. But if we had our way, we'd be swimming in dream games already.
