Local Weekend Box Office Report 8 - 10 September 2017: The Dark Tower is erected in first place, but it's looking awful rickety as it's built on the worst weekend of 2017

As a high-profile adaptation with big name stars, this week’s main drawcard should be The Dark Tower.  Unfortunately, it’s not your best option, and while I probably can’t dissuade you from wasting your time, I should point out that it’s not your only option this weekend. Here’s everything opening in cinemas today.

The Dark Tower hits South African cinemas this Friday. Is it one for fans only, or can you still enjoy this sci-fi fantasy if you know nothing about the Stephen King books? A newbie watches and weighs in.

Ignore the wild abandon with which the source material was treated. Forget the terrible pacing, somewhat lacklustre acting and lifeless cinematography. At the end of the day, The Dark Tower is just underwhelming
