"PS3-Mote" Seen in Action – Is this the future for Sony?

By Nick De Bruyne

After a whole bunch of rumours flew around the net earlier this year regarding a PS3 motion controller, nothing was ever shown or seen of the remote and what it was capable. But now we have something special to show you. A company by the name of "Sixense" has put on a presentation showing the capabilities of the remote that they have been working on and the results are astounding to say the least. This new technology far outperforms that of the Nintendo Wii in terms of accuracy and usability and some of the demo's that the developer showed off really opened my eyes to exactly what can be done with a remote like this as well as how easy it could actually be to make a fully immersive experience with something like that of a third person shooter. Don't believe me? Check out this video and especially take note of how the developer makes use of cover in a mock-up paintball game around the 2 minute mark and tell me that integrating something like that into a hardcore shooter wouldn't make it a ton of fun. More information as well as the full videos, after the jump. Due to the controller being so accurate and being able to allow body movement (unlike an accelerometer-based controller that always has a centre point), the developer is able to properly take cover behind a wall by crouching and then stick out the side to shoot at his targets. Although I am not entirely sure if Sony even has any official involvement in this project, they had better jump on this fast because I am sure that Microsoft sees the same potential that I do and we all know that they are very quick to throw money at something that they want. I didn't really think that a more accurate motion controller would ever get me excited but after seeing this and realising the potential, I can't wait to see what gets done with it. Am I insane for thinking that this is really cool or do a lot of you out there agree with me? Let us know in the comments.

First look at new Sony light/sound/break-apart/motion sensing controller thingamajig

breakapartcontroller.jpg Images from a patent application from Sony have made their way onto the internet showing off an incredibly odd looking controller device that looks to somehow also involve the PS-Eye. While a patent doesn't mean that it is actually going to come out, it is a possibility that Sony is working on something rather different here in an attempt to break into the casual market that the Wii has so easily eaten up. A break-controller has been rumored for ages now and so this may be what all the fuss is about. I have posted up a whole bunch of extra drawings of the device and how it works after the jump.

Rumor: GTAIV Delayed on PC because of DRM?

By Nick De Bruyne

Joystiq reports that product pages from GameStop and Amazon seem to now be displaying the release date of GTAIV for PC as December 2. Now, if you can't remember, the original release date for the game was November 18, meaning that the game is possibly looking at a two week delay. With many PC gamers dying to find out what all the fuss was about, as well as the fact that a lot of Christmas shopping will be done in November, the delay may hurt sales as well as test some PC gamer's patience. While the port does promise enhancements over the console version, you really have to wonder what could have possibly caused the delay. We reckon that there is the possibility that it could have something to do with the dreaded DRM. With so many PC sales being lost out to piracy these days, Rockstar could full well be taking some extra time to layer on a stronger copy-protection system for their game. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. The worst part of it all is that there is probably going to be a pirated version available on the net by November 18 anyway, which is not only sickening but also makes you wonder how much a two week delay could hurt sales.

Fallout Movie with Tarantino at the helm?

By Nick De Bruyne

The MTV Multiplayer blog posted up a comment from Bethesda's Pete Hines that shows that they are most definitely not against the idea of a movie adaptation, as long as the right person is on the job. In his comment he plays with the idea of having someone like Quentin Tarantino take on the project. They report on the following comment: “You know, if we f— this game up, nobody’s gonna want to touch us with a ten foot pole. [Our attitude is] we’re a game company, let’s make the best game we can make and all that other stuff can sort its self out once we’re doing our job. Our job is not to try and make a thing that would make a great movie, we have to make a great game. If somebody says ‘we wanna do this, this is the guy who’s gonna direct it,’ then yeah! [laughs] If Quentin Tarantino wants to do ‘Fallout 3,’ yes, we will hear that proposal! [laughs harder] If Ridley Scott wants to do ‘Fallout 3,’ we will have that lunch!” – “Fallout 3″ product manager Pete Hines on whether Bethesda Softworks would be open to the idea of a movie based on their new game. What do you guys think? Does a Fallout movie sound like a plan? Heck, if Tarantino does jump at this it would most definitely peak my interest.
