Visual Concepts and publisher 2K are promising to show off more of how WWE 2K22 is coming along by sharing regular behind-the-scenes updates "over the coming weeks" on Instagram and Twitter.
At the showcase of the immortals that was Wrestlemania 37 on the weekend, a whopping 22 second-long trailer was shown off of WWE 2K22 in action. Technically, half the trailer was Rey Mysterio flexing his muscles, the other half was a digital recreation of the master of the 619 introducing his favourite San Diego postal code to Cesaro’s face

WWE 2K Battlegrounds feels like a missed opportunity at the best of times. What could have been a mad breath of fresh air until WWE 2K22 comes along, is instead a boring grind that’s all style and no real substance. Invasive microtransactions tarnish the few remaining bright spots of this game, barely allowing it be okayfabe.

It was time to talk about video games with the phenomenal one instead.
Thanks to the unprecedented awfulness of WWE 2K20 actually resulting in a publisher saying ‘Hey maybe we should make a good game for once’ and developer Visual Concepts being given some extra time to get the next game right, this year’s landscape is devoid of a traditional WWE 2K experience. What there is instead, is a simpler and more cartoonish experience whipped up by Saber Interactive.
Called WWE 2K Battlegrounds, the idea is sports entertainment if Tex Avery was in charge. Saber Interactive is in charge of this project, which now has a release date: September 18.
