Xbox Live Starter Pack coming soon

By Nick De Bruyne

A report has come in confirming that a new Xbox Live starter pack has been made official and is going to be arriving sometime next week for the US price of $99.00. The pack includes a 60GB HDD, a 3 month subscription to Xbox Live, a wired headset as well as an ethernet cable. A touch expensive? Maybe. With 20GB HDD's usually going for around a grand in South Africa, it may not actually be a bad deal. This all however depends on the price it will be when it hits local shelves, which also brings me onto my next point. When I say next week, I mean next week in the US as there are no indications to whether or not we will even be seeing it in South Africa, especially since we don't even have local Live support. We can only hope to see it someday soon and with all of the extra online functionality being pushed towards the casual gamer with the new dashboard update, it's about time that we start seeing some proper news about some local support.

Anytime the question is asked people point to the Xbox 360 Live network failing as proof that the charge model is not …

Xbox Live is still broken

By Gavin Mannion

It appears that the new software update for Xbox Live has made it incredibly unstable… you would think that they would have tested this a little more thoroughly before installing it. Live was down for slightly longer than planned yesterday and at this time of writing it is still bouncing around like an inebriated bunny. Hopefully by the time you …

I hope you didn’t have any big Xbox Live plans on Monday, September 29, because Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has posted a notice that the online service will be down for maintenance, potentially lasting all day. “On Monday, 9/29/2008 from 12:01 AM PST for up to 24 hours, Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance,” Hryb writes. I am not excited about these avatars, to me it just looks like a “me too” move from Microsoft and I would have preferred them to use their time and money on something more exciting. But they are coming and there is nothing I can do to stop that so let’s take a look at what we will be getting. …
