While we in South Africa are still a bit bitter about the lack of a local release date for the Xbox One, spare a thought for the poor Japanese – who won’t see the PlayStation 4 until 2014.

In a press conference today, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 will be released in Japan on February 22, 2014 – which, the astute of you might have noticed, is later than our own local PS4 release date of December 6 this year.

The console will be available without the  PS4 Eye camera for ¥39,980 ($401/R4018). A special “Limited Pack” for those who buy on or around release date will  includes console, controller, download voucher for Knack. They’ll also be selling a bundle that including the camera will be on sale for ¥43,980 ($442/R4420).

Funny stuff; If Microsoft actually makes a push to release their system in Japan this year, they could get a next-gen leg up on the competition in its home territory.
