I don’t know about you guys, but I kinda dig me some dice rolls that revolve around descending into dungeons. That may or may not have dragons in them. While my last game gave my lvl 19 opportunist boosts towards using my companions as meat shields, no amount of dice rolls could wipe the memory of the Dungeons and Dragons movies from my mind.
The Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson tabletop game hasn’t exactly translated well onto the big screen, but it looks like Warner Bros is once again gearing up for some more big screen LARPing in the near future.
Rolling 20, Deadline has reported that the latest incarnation of DnD on the big screen will be have a screenplay provided by David “Wrath of the Titans” Johnson, as WB moves forward staffing the project with a director, crew and actors. The Johnson script will use elements of the earlier precursor to DnD, the 1971 game Chainmail, and will also include more familiar ideas as well from the broader universe that has grown into a massive cult game over the decades.
I’m all for another DnD film, and a part of me hopes that Jeremy Irons will return. Because man, he was freakin’ boss in that first film. For more Dungeons and Dragons, check out the 1983 cartoon, and direct to DVD flicks Wrath of the Dragon God and The Book of Vile Darkness.
