Oh, so you thought that that incredibly badass new Suicide Squad trailer was all that the folks at DC Comics and WB had to offer during their “DC Films Presents: The Dawn of the Justice League” Special that aired on CW last night? Well, surprise! Because the hosts of the Special, DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and comic book fanboy/fan-favourite filmmaker/wearer of way too many hockey shirts Kevin Smith, also went to introduce and show us the first footage from the upcoming Wonder Woman solo film. And now you can watch it below right now!

Admittedly, that’s not the most jaw-dropping footage – as they’re clearly holding back all the really crazy mythological stuff for the actual official trailer – but I really am digging what I’m seeing here. Despite initial cries of concern and trepidation, star Gal Gadot is really looking the part as Wonder Woman herself. And it’s amazing how the WWI period already gives this a different flavour to other superhero movies out there. Also, I always get a huge kick out of watching people punch Nazis!

Speaking of punching… Patty Jenkins (Monster) is a fantastic director, but she’s never even remotely done anything this action-heavy (or even on this scale), so I’m intrigued to see how she handles it. As Johns mentions in the clip above, Wonder Woman is “an Amazon Warrior”, “very powerful” and “the best fighter in the DC Universe” who “has been training her whole life for war”, so her being a complete action heroine badass is sort of a big deal, and something they have to get right. But although we see a few slo-mo punchups here, it’s not nowhere near enough to judge properly. If Jenkins brings the same level of intensity to the action here as she did to her more dramatic work in the past though, then we’re definitely in for a treat.

Personally though, I’m just happy that FINALLY, after so many damn years of false starts and dumbfounded incredulity, we’re actually getting a Wonder Woman movie. It’s absolutely laughable that one of DC Comics’ biggest and most powerful characters has never really been given the same movie treatment as Batman or Superman, simply because she had lady parts or had the misfortune of wearing star spangled panties and a golden eagle bustierre once (Hey, it was the 1940’s, man!). Now let’s just hope and pray that they make her movie debut good. Thus far? It looks like they’re off to a great start.

PS: Along with the footage, WB also officially released the movie’s logo, and it’s… well, a logo. A very Wonder Woman-ish logo. What more can I say, really?
