When it comes to Batman v Superman: Corn with Butters, thus far we’ve seen very little outside of the two titular heroes. But we know there’s a lot more costumed folk scheduled to pop up, and I’m not just referring to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Director/co-writer Zack Snyder’s upcoming comic book flick is supposed to act as an intro to the eventual Justice League movie, and it’s widely believed that several members of that team will be showing up at some point (Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is almost a definite, while Ray Fisher’s Cyborg and Ezra Miller’s Flash are very likely).

Even if those extra folks actually don’t show up, the trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman still feels like superhero overkill to just taken on Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. I mean he did invent Facebook is a genius supervillain, but that seems a tad excessive, don’t you think? But according to the latest rumours though, Lex is going to have some major help. And a wardrobe change.

Now clearly, this could be considered a major SPOILER, so turn back now if you don’t want to read any further. For the rest of you, scroll past the pic below!

El Mayhimbe aka Umberto Gonzales, the former self proclaimed apex predator scooper of Latino-Review and now Heroic Hollywood, dropped by during the Shanilan on Batman podcast, and seemingly confirmed a rumour that’s been floating around for a while: Doomsday is going to be in this movie. Yes, the Doomsday that killed Superman in the iconic 1990’s comic book story arc (don’t worry, Supes got better). According to Gonzales, while Luthor is still the film’s bad guy, Doomsday will be his superpowered muscle. Gonzales compared the relationship to that of Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader in the original Star Wars – Vader was actually the henchman that everybody was afraid of, but Tarkin was the actual architect of the Death Star.

As I mentioned, this is not a new rumour as there have been rumblings about Doomsday’s appearance since the beginning of the year, but Gonzales – who has had a very solid track record on scoops – is now declaring it “official”.

And as for how Doomsday ends up in the movie, the prevailing theory is actually a very interesting one that has its roots in Man of Steel. According to the grapevine, Luthor, in an attempt to find some way of going toe-to-toe with Superman, steals General Zod’s body and begins experimenting on it in secret. During his experiments though, he triggers something called “the Doomsday genome”, a type of latent genetic virus that may have been given to Kryptonian soldiers. This revitalizes and transforms Zod’s body into the rampaging monster known as Doomsday, who according to Gonzales looks “incredible”.

When asked though if Ben Affleck’s ominous “Do you bleed?” line from the Batman v Superman trailer perhaps referenced Doomsday and not Superman as we thought, Gonzales dropped another nugget saying that that scene was actually from “a dream sequence”. He later also went on to state that Affleck’s Batman is “brutal in this movie… This Batman is a bone-breaker. He is ruthles, he’s violent, he’s angry… He’s Frank Miller’s vision all right.” Whoo.

And according to a second rumour scoop from JoBlo, Batman won’t be the only normal human being getting violent though. According to one of their “very trusted and reliable” sources, Lex Luthor “will also get in on the action…and will do so wearing his trademark green/purple WARSUIT!”.

For those of you not familiar, Luthor’s colourful and immensely powerful armour has been a staple of the character in just about all his incarnations, whether in the comics or in the animated series. According to JoBlo’s source, the suit “will be very much like the many variations we’ve seen in the past and will obviously fit the style and look of the film”. They go on to say that he will only wear it for a part of the film. Whether that is in the finale or not is unclear, but at least it implies a Luthor vs Superman battle at some stage.

In the comics, Luthor designed and built the suit himself just using his scientific know-how, but according to this rumour, the new suit is put together using Kryptonian technology that Luthor recovers from the scene of the Metropolis battle in Man of Steel. The basis for Luthor’s suit may even be Zod’s very own armour, which the Kryptonian general discarded during his fight with Superman.

If both Doomsday and armoured Luthor do make an appearance in Batman v Superman as these rumours claim, it really ups the action ante here and would actually provide a very fitting reason for all the other heroes to at least come have a look-see at what is going down. Based on the fact that we haven’t even seen Wonder Woman outside of that first and only official image though, I assume it’s going to be quite some time before we get any sort of confirmation of these latest reports.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release on March 25, 2016.
