NEWS TEAM…ASSEMBLE! I’m pretty psyched to see the greatest team of television journalists that San Diego has ever witnessed return to the big screen next year.
Will Ferrell and the rest of the gang are all locked in for the sequel, which will hopefully have more sex panther cologne, street battles with rival news crews that escalate far too quickly, and according to director Adam McKay, musical numbers.
While doing the press junket rounds to promote a new film, McKay spoke to the playlist about how the film might feature a moment or two where Burgundy and his team break into song;
“The music sequences we have done – we did Afternoon Delight’ inAnchorman, Adam Scott and his family singing Sweet Child O’ Mine in Step Brothers, we did a whole song for Talladega Nights that got cut out, a big, big musical number – we always do it live on the set,” McKay said.
And my thing is, if the actors get freaked out, don’t sweat it, we can always re-record it later. And every time we’ve done it, we end up using the live track from the recording. We’ll probably do it the same way in this.
This one might have a little more movement in it, and the only problem with that is the actors get winded.
Besides a quick stab at Les Miserables with the musical leanings, McKay also elaborated on how the sequel is looking to have more cameos in it as well;
We’re talking about for Anchorman 2 creating a murderer’s row of the best day players ever. Like having every single one line or three-line role, just be someone we just love. Someone like Ian Roberts or Rob Huebel or Paula Killen – just making sure every day player is a homerun.
Shooting kicks off next year March for Anchorman 2, and stars Will Ferrell alongside his trusty crew of Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Christina Applegate.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to submit a song idea to McKay for a Whore Island musical.
