I’ll be honest. I knew pretty much nothing about upcoming drama Two Lovers and a Bear before I decided to write an article about its first trailer. I had never seen any of Canadian director Kim Nguyen’s previous films, despite their numerous accolades, so that wasn’t the hook here. No, all I saw was that it starred Tatiana Maslany and that was enough for me.
For the past couple of years, the young actress has been absolutely slaying it on Orphan Black, playing up to 6 different characters – all of them masterfully, I might add. With the amount of talent she has, the fact that she isn’t a big Hollywood star by now, is one of the entertainment industry’s grave injustices. Two Lovers and a Bear doesn’t appear to be the movie that rectifies that massive oversight though, but it does see her starring with equally talented Dane DeHaan in what looks to be a sweeping drama set in a winter wasteland.
Check out the trailer below.
We are in the Great North, near the North Pole, in a modern town where about two hundred souls live precariously in minus fifty weather, and where roads lead to nowhere but the endless white. It is in this eerie lunar landscape that Lucy and Roman, two young tormented souls, fell in love. But now, ghosts from Lucy’s past are coming back, and she needs to run away or she will burn.
Together, these lovers decide to make a leap for life, a leap for inner peace. They head out in the Great White, where the strangeness makes one feel he is travelling inside of himself.
Two Loves and a Bear will make its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival later in the year. No word on a wider release date yet.
