Who would ever have thought that when “Rocky Maivia” first showed up in the WWE with his silly eyebrow and even sillier elbow that he would one day become Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, big time Hollywood action hero. But here we are, nearly two decades later, with Johnson headlining that old Hollywood action hero staple: the big budget, FX-heavy disaster movie.

For San Andreas, The Rock is once again teaming up with his Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton. But unlike their previous jaunt, you shouldn’t expect any giant bee rides and Luis Guzman jokes, as the film’s first trailer is a surprisingly somber affair. Not that there isn’t a whole lot of flashy visuals on display, and no I’m not just talking about co-stars Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario. Okay, so maybe I am talking about them a little bit.

From we can see from the film here, this seems to mostly stick to the script for these types of things, although it is noteworthy that Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, Nash Bridges) had a hand in this movie’s actual script. So who knows, maybe there’s more to this than just “The Rock saves people from an earthquake”. If it’s revealed that a massive smoke monster is actually behind the earthquake, then this movie will really have my attention, instead of the slightest of interests that it’s currently evoking.

After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter. But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning, and when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started.

San Andreas also stars Kylie Minogue, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt and Art Parkinson. It is scheduled for release internationally on May 29, 2015, but hits local cinemas on June 5, 2015.
