Despite me being pretty meh on the previous film, I will give some well-deserved credit to The Divergent Series: Insurgent. Where most movies in Hollywood have developed a habit of spoiling, well, everything months before its released with multiple trailers showing every frame of action to be found in it (yes, I am looking at you Amazing Spider-Man 2), the sequel has managed to actually keeping its cards close to its chest. With teaser trailers that appeared more abstract than anything else, you could definitely say that it subscribes to the super-secretive JJ Abrams’ “mystery box” theorem. Especially since one of those teaser trailers actually contained a giant effing mystery box!

But with less the month to go before the movie’s release, the film’s final trailer has been release, finally giving us a proper look at some of its biggest secrets. Like why Shailene Woodley’s Tris got a haircut. Okay, so there’s much more than that. A lot more actually as we get to see the world outside of the walled off community in the first film, as well as the movie’s now even further expanded cast, which admittedly is seriously packed with acting talent. Whether all that talent translates into a movie that does more for me than the first did (ditching the stupid “chicken dance” martial arts would be a great start) is still unknown though.

THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.

On a different note: How dumb do Hollywood studios think us movie goers are? Do they really think that they need to put the name of the first movie in the title of the subsequent sequels or people will get confused and think they’re watching something else entirely? Twilight and Hungers Games (hell, some could even say Lord of the Rings) are guilty of this as well, and its getting really annoying as movie titles just keep getting longer and more convoluted as a result, e.g.  the mouthful that is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.
