I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it’s a good time to be a geek. The next couple of years are stuffed so full of sci-fi movie goodness that it may even convince the most diehard geeks to venture out of their Fortress of Solid-Nerd to catch a movie or two at their local cinema.
And one such sci-fi lure is Korean director Bong Joon-Ho’s English language debut, Snowpiercer. We’ve already been introduced to the main cast thanks to some character posters and passport photos, and now get to see a bit more of the world with these new images and a poster.
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
As Joon-Ho directed one of my favourite sci-fi creature features of the last few years, The Host (the good one, not the Stephanie Meyers one), I’ve been keeping a close eye on Snowpiercer since its announcement. It’s an intriguing concept and a great cast, and judging from these pics, Joon-Ho is creating an intriguing world. A world where soap and dental care is apparently anathema and Asian ladies have really wide open eyes, but intriguing nonetheless.
Snowpiercer has no release date set yet, but principal photography wrapped up last year already it’s currently in post production in Korea, so it shouldn’t be too long before this one pulls into cinemas.
