What a difference a successful event series makes. Wait a minute, that’s what we said yesterday about the new 24 event series. Well over at Fox if one event series is good, two is better!
As per TVLine, Prison Break will return to the small screen as a limited event series. Which is fitting in a sense as the show was originally intended to be an event series with a short, single season; however it’s popularity led to the first season being expanded and a further three seasons airing between 2005 and 2009.
And whereas 24 is searching for a new lead, Prison Break will see original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell reprising their roles as
rogues Captain Cold and Heat Wave brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. What’s that you say? Isn’t *SPOILER ALERT* Michael Scofield dead? Well, he got better! *END SPOILER* Or, and I’m speculating here, this could be some kind of prequel to the original series.
Should this event series also prove successful, we can expect even more Fox properties receiving the same treatment. While 24 and Prison Break are probably their two stand-out action-dramas, they’ve got a number of older sci-fi properties I’d enjoy seeing make a return as event series. The Purcell-led John Doe, Dark Angel and Terminator: TSCC to name a few. We already know The X-Files is making a come back. Given how Hollywood tends to follow popular trends, I wouldn’t be surprised to see other networks following suit.
Are you happy to see Prison Break returning, or are you thinking more along the lines of…
