RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER starts production, full synopsis and cast list revealed

resident-evil-afterlife-photos-8While James still seems to be getting some jollies from the Resident Evil movies, I gave up on the franchise a long time ago as it diverted from a solid zombie action/horror flick that still had some roots in the survival horror video game it was adapting, to a big scale B-movie shoot ’em up with enough slow-motion shots to make John Woo cry. Based on the $916 million dollars (off a combined budget of $250 million) the previously released five films have added to production studio Screen Gems’ coffers though, I think it’s safe to say that my apathy is in the minority here.

But even with that commercial success, it’s finally come time for star Milla Jovovich’s super-powered zombie slayer Alice to hang up her guns with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The very descriptively titled latest installment is actually shooting here in South Africa, and according to a Screen Gems press release (via IGN), principal photography officially started this weekend past (So don’t be surprised if you see bunch of undead shambling around in your city streets, it’s just a movie – or you live in Kimberley).

Along with the production start announcement, the studio has also unveiled the movie’s full cast as well as its official synopsis. As previously reported, Ali Larter returns as Claire Redfield, and also reprising their roles from previous installments will be Game of Thrones star Iain Glen as Dr. Alexander Isaacs/Tyrant and Shawn Roberts as the villainous big bad Albert Wesker. Joining the cast will be Orange is the New Black breakout star Ruby Rose as Abigail; Eoin Macken (Merlin) as Doc; William Levy as Christian; Fraser James as Michael; and Japanese model-TV personality Rola as Cobalt.

Here’s the synopsis:

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is directed by series helmer Paul W.S. Anderson off his own script once again. It is scheduled for release in February 2017.
