Take a peek at the blueprints for Jaegers in this emergency broadcast for PACIFIC RIM

Looks like the viral marketing for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim has kicked off with all the subtlety that you’d expect from a giant monster vs massive mecha robot showdown!

Blueprints, teaser trailers and emergency broadcasts, ho!Alright, let’s start with some robot blueprints, shall we? Released on Wired and Elijah, the following images show off the Jaegers, gigantic automatons that are controlled by two pilots who link up their brainwaves in order to layeth the smack down.

Here we have Gipsy Danger, Coyote Tango and something else which doesn’t subscribe to the Top Gun school of callsigns. Since it looks soviet, I’m going to call it Chernobyl, which is also the name of my Hummer car;

Damn son, those are some big last hopes for humanity! Following on from those blueprint reveals, come these two TV spots, which tease the size and scope of the monstrous Kaiju, while also reminding us what TV was like two decades ago when the programming wasn’t on 24/7;

Ad topping that off, a viral website with a countdown clock, highlighting the Pan Pacific Defense Corp, and where the Kaiju might attack. Good news Cape Town! You get to live another day to eat some Gatsby sammiches!

Pacific Rim is high on my list right now for upcoming flicks. You’ve got giant robots, gargantuan monsters, Guillermo Del Toro directing and Idris Elba starring.

What more could you ask for in life?

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.

But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

    This is essentially a live-action anime. And I am definitely not complaining.
