I-GIVE-IT-A-YEAR

There are lots of things that Americans do better than the British – barbecue, monster trucks, not being burned a bright cherry red the moment a sliver of sun pokes past the soupy clouds – but making romantic comedies is not one of them. Hollywood seems to think that [INSERT ACTRESS OF CHOICE HERE] just being clumsy equals comedy gold, whereas the Brits just tell good jokes. Also, they’re not afraid to get a little… risque, shall we say? (Remember the opening “dialogue” for Four Weddings and a Funeral?)

And that brings us to I Give It A Year, which appears to be following in that fine British rom-com tradition with a charming cast, hilarious antics and the occasional naughty bit.

Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Rose Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Rafe Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, but the spark between them is undeniable.

Their wedding is a dream come true, but no one — family, friends and even the minister who marries them — is convinced that they will last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Simon Baker) could offer attractive alternatives.

With their first anniversary approaching, neither wants to be the first to give up, but will they make it?

Remember those naughty bits I mentioned up above? Well, this film is written and directed by Dan Mazer, longtime writing partner of Sacha Baron Cohen on some of his creations like Ali G and Borat, so this movie just wouldn’t be complete without a bit of inappropriate nudity. And according to this very NSFW but hilarious red band clip that was also released, we’re certainly going to be seeing a lot of that. Penises. I mean we’re going to be seeing a lot of penises.

I Give it a Year will released in UK cinemas on August 9, 2013, before getting a wider international release only in February 2014.
