It would seem that today’s trailer theme is “hunting”. Earlier on The Starving Games was hunting for laughs (and failing), while Robert De Niro and John Travolta were apparently hunting for a paycheck and nothing more in Killing Season.
Now its time for Nicolas Cage to go hunting, not only for suspected serial killer John Cusack, but also for some video proof that he can in fact not act like a clown on PCP in every movie he stars in.
“The Frozen Ground” follows Alaskan detective Jack Halcombe (Cage) as he sets out to end the murderous rampage of Robert Hansen (Cusack), a serial killer who has gone unnoticed for 13 years. As the bodies of street girls start to add up in Anchorage, fear strikes a chord with the public. Risking his life, Detective Flothe goes on a personal manhunt to find the killer before the next body surfaces. When a seventeen year old escapee reveals key information about the case, Flothe is finally able to trail the killer. But will he catch him in time to save the next victim?
The last time Cage decided to rein in his excesses we got the surprisingly decent Seeking Justice. That movie wasn’t great but it wasn’t a stinker either, just a perfectly inoffensive 90-minute time waster. I get the feeling that this may be more of the same. Cusack is always good for a watch and Vanessa Hudgens, despite her Disney roots, has turned out to be a decent enough actress.
The Frozen Ground is on the case as from August 23, 2013.
