Ah, best friends. There’s nothing quite like that special bond between two people who just get along so completely and perfectly well.
There’s apparently also nothing quite like what happens when that bond is broken, and then one of those two people intentionally strands both of them in the middle of the desert in order to repair it, but in actual fact he’s just making things worse as the solitude starts driving them stir crazy to point of shaving their skulls, and suddenly wanting to stab each other’s spleens and beat each other’s head with a crutch until the brainy bits resemble something not unlike soggy paper mache sounds like a good idea.
Ah, best friends.
Mitchell (Josh Duhamel) and Carter (Dan Fogler), life-long friends who have drifted apart, are on a road trip when their old pickup breaks down, leaving them stranded on an isolated desert road. Nobody can pick apart a man like his best friend, and as the relentless elements of the desert grind them down, they start to attack each other’s life decisions with unwavering brutality. As they question who they are and who they could have been, their agitation leads to physical confrontation and ultimately knife-wielding madness, and what begins as an inconvenience becomes a very real life or death struggle.
This trailer features a whole lot more story than the teaser trailer we posted a few months back, which was essentially just Dan Fogler and Josh Duhamel trying to punch each other in the face. It may be a just a little bit too much story revealed though, depending on where the film’s narrative actually leads, but it still looks like it will be an intense ride.
Scenic Route will be out on limited release sometime in August, 2013.
