I have been waiting for a follow up to Beyond Good and Evil for far too many years. The game itself was innovative and unique, plus it was a ton of fun. It seems the game has been stuck in development hell after being delayed due to poor sales. However, Ubisoft is still working on it.
Michel Ancel has started a new indie studio called Wild Sheep Studio. It has 13 staffers and is working on an original game. However, this doesn’t mean that he’s leaving Ubisoft. The Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil creator told Eurogamer:
In many ways, BG&E is an inimitable game – it appeals to all generations of gamers and is an inspiration behind many of Ubisoft Montpellier’s past and future games. It’s still far too early to give many details about this new title, but what we can say is that while Michel and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier are working with the core tenets of BG&E, they’re developing something that aspires to push past the boundaries of a proverbial sequel and leverages next-gen technologies to deliver a truly surprising, innovative and exceptional game. The entire team is excited about the direction this extremely ambitious project is taking, and we’ll have more to share later, as it progresses.
Pushing past boundaries of a sequel? So Beyond Sequel? Ambitious project? I can see it now – a bigger world to explore, or maybe even multiple worlds. I am so ready for this – it will prove that Ubisoft can follow through on their more outlandish franchises, and bring back a female lead. Really, I just can’t wait to wield that camera again, taking on the corruption in the world one picture at a time.
Do you also still yearn for this title, or are Geoff and I the only remaining fans who are desperate for Ubisoft to make this game?
