E3 2011 Press Conference Round-Up and Videos – EA

Next up we had Bioware come out and say a few words on The Old Republic, although no major information was release, instead we were just given a mash-up trailer of previous trailers and a little more that plays on which side the player will choose to remind us that the game is coming, and make sure we don’t forget about it.

The trailer makes me realise that Bioware needs to go into the Animated movie business more than anything.

We are then shown a video that gives us views of snow-filled mountain tops and wrecked planes. What could it be? The reveal for the brand new SSX, that’s what.

The trailer showed off the goods and was backed up by Peter Moore coming on stage to tell us that the game is absolutely massive and uses all sorts of space technology to give players access to amazing real locations.

Peter Moore then started saying all sorts of impressive things about FIFA, about how it is “The World’s Game” and that the last version logged 1.3 billion game sessions (and that’s only on connected consoles when you think about it).

They showed off a trailer and also announced a new online service called EA Sports Football Club which adds social and competitive functionality to the game.

What I did like is that people can pick their favorite clubs, and the service tracks all games worldwide and puts the stats together to show which clubs are leading worldwide with the combined efforts of all the gamers who use them. There are also real world challenges as well as RPG elements combined into it, this may actually be pretty spectacular for FIFA nuts.

Here’s a totally unrelated gameplay trailer:

The Football Club service will release for free along with the next FIFA.

EA then brought 3 very large NFL players onto the stage. They were sweaty and said some stuff about football. Peter Moore emphasised that the new Madden would capture the emotional aspects of football. The big people all sweated profusely, with possible grunts happening occasionally.

They left the stage just in time to perfectly flow into… Sims on Facebook?

Yes, before taking a very harsh stab at Zynga’s FarmVille, EA went on to announce The Sims Social, which looks to integrate your sims into your Facebook profile and allow you to play and interact with other people.

Truth be told, this scared the living hell out of me and I think it may cause some major social issues – but hey, it’s just a game right? Errr… yeah, watch the video and see for yourself.

I don’t know. The ability to have ‘relations’ with avatar versions of other people in a non-real setting where things can get very messy… I just don’t think this is a good idea.

“Your Sims character kissed his Sims character, I’m breaking up with you” – Yes people, I think this is actually going to happen.
