Expect more Borderlands

2 min read

We here at Lazygamer love the hell out of Borderlands 2, so much so, that it nabbed our Game of the Year award (hey, at least it wasn’t Black Ops 2, amirite?). It seems we weren’t alone in our unbridle adulation – 5,999,995 other people agree.

In a financial earnings call, Take-Two Interactive boss Strauss Zelnick’s confirmed that Borderlands 2 has hit a sales milestone of over 6 million copies, up from the 5 million the company sold by October last year.

The game was pretty instrumental in keeping Take-Two swimming in money, helping the company net a profit of $78.8 million in the quarter ending December 31. Borderlands 2’s season pass and DLC also helped raise the company’s digital revenue by 244% over the previous year.

Zelnick also adds that the Borderlands franchise is one of the company’s most important “long-term” properties, so it;s probably safe to expect more Borderlands, on more platforms.

As much as I love Borderlands, I have to say that I sincerely hope it doesn’t become an annual thing – and that the next game mixes the formula up a bit more.

If you don’t have internet at home but would like to contribute towards Take-Two’s coffers, you’ll soon be able to buy some of the game’s DLC via a retail disc-based release.

2K has announced a Borderlands 2: Add-On Content Pack containing the first two add-on campaigns along with a fifth playable class, Gaige the Mechromancer, will release on disc later this month.

The disc includes Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty and Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, as well as Gaige the Mechromancer, also throwing in the Creature Slaughter Dome battle arena. I somehow suckered myself in to buying the Season pass, and was left pretty underwhelmed by Scarlett’s Booty; so much so that I’ve not touched the other bits of DLC yet.
