That Fallout 4 teaser site suckered a lot of people, raising way too much false hope. The guy who went through all of that trouble is naturally not one of the internet’s favourite people right now, has explained just why he did it. He’s also called himself a “douche,” which is a sentiment that’s hard to argue with.
“Uhm, Hello? I’m the Prick behind thesurvivor2299,” he said, opening a reddit AMA.
He was quite hopeful that his site and the media attention focused on it would force Bethesda to play its hand.
“Some men just want to watch the world burn. I wanted to force Bethesda to reveal something during VGX, and bring [the Reddit] Fallout community together (for at least 3 weeks). Unfortunately, this plan failed.”
His plan was release a self-made CGI trailer for a non-existent game – but Bethesda got in contact and kindly asked him to stop his crap.
“I’m one of these ‘selfish bastards with a lot of money’ so I wanted to release a CGI trailer. But Pete [Hines, Bethesda’s PR boss] killed my plans. Maybe I’ll release it later along with the script, so somebody else can use it… I don’t wan’t to piss off Bethesda at this time even more.”
Bethesda also warned him that people would not be happy – and yes, he’s received a few death threats already.
He also said he still plans on releasing the CGI trailer at some point after December 11, also revealing that he spent about $900 getting the whole thing going.
“I know I’m a douche,” he clarified.
Yes. Yes you are.

You think he’s a douche? Anyone who invested their time and interest in his site needs to direct their comments to Bethesda. After all the site was up for how long without any word from Bethesda. They could have denied it on day one but chose not to. The only reason he’s a douche is because he chooses to believe he is one.

I find it interesting that few people in the gaming press are reporting on how the whole thing was a planned fanfiction, not a reveal to the game as DCHoaxer revealed in his Reddit AMA.
