Is Crackdown 3 in the works?

The original Crackdown was easily one of the most enjoyable games I’d ever played and when Crackdown 2 was announced I was ridiculously excited about getting my super powers back and going orb hunting across the skyline.

Then Crackdown 2 was released and it destroyed the last remaining innocence in me with its identical level design and terrible, awful, painful gameplay.

It was like someone had taken all that was good in Crackdown and flushed it down the toilet and simply replaced it with more pointless garbage and zombies.

So it goes without saying that the idea of the same team now making a third Crackdown fills me with fear and loathing –  but that idea may actually be true. Then again it could be something entirely original. The Dundee studio who made Crackdown 2, Ruffian, have now advertised for a senior engineer with Crytek skills to help develop an unnamed title.

Ruffian had previously announced that they currently have 4 titles underway with one being a third person action title with an extensive multiplayer section. Or Crackdown 3 in other words.

I for one am not excited… but what if they actually made a proper Crackdown sequel… I’d forgive them then. I really would

I liked the squirrel gliding and such of Crackdown 2, but enjoyed the driving around the city in the first one that was impossible in Crackdown 2 with all the city damage. Nevertheless, the new hardware should enable a sandbox game that will enable me to waste countless hours away in exploring/destroying bliss.
