Rage 2’s first DLC will see you return to the wasteland to bust some ghosts

In a year defined by post-apocalyptic sandbox shooters where pink was the hottest colour in the wasteland, it looked like Bethesda’s Rage 2 was ready to steal the crown when it came to manic magenta mayhem. The marketing produced some of the best trailers of the year, the world looked interesting and you could trick out a car with enough weapons to give David Hasslehoff KITT envy.

And then the game actually came along and it was…well it was fine I guess? Rage 2 is by no stretch a bad game, but it’s not exactly an interesting one either as the end result fails to have any of the personality that the marketing buzz promised. It’s a paint by numbers post-apocalypse tat’s over before it even begins, but come September 26 Bethesda is looking to inject some post-launch flavour back into it.

Called Rise of the Ghosts, the first stab at expansive content will see you venture into a new region that’s swarming with a new enemy faction dedicated to all things Tom Clancy. Known as the Ghosts, Bethesda says that the new cannon fodder will represent a tougher challenge as many of these savage daredevils possess nanotrite abilities of their own:

The Ghosts were once a terror in the wasteland. Ruthless, vicious, tactical, and cruel, they took what they wanted and left no survivors. Following the Authority Wars, they were nowhere to be found. At the time, many people assumed they had simply been wiped out and they began to fade into wasteland legend. In reality, they had found a higher calling; a strange woman named Iris promised them power and glory if they did everything she said.

Iris and the Ghosts fled to the Overgrown City, where for years they underwent intensive brainwashing and were subjected to experiments that left them with powerful and mysterious nanotrite abilities.

  • New story
  • New enemy faction – Ghosts
  • New region to explore – Overgrown City
  • New weapon – Feltrite Laser Launcher
  • New Ability – Void
  • New Vehicle – Ghost Motorcycle

On top of that danger within the new slice of wasteland, there’ll also be a laser launcher weapon to grab and a new ability that goes by the title of Void. There’s no idea what it does exactly, but I’d hazard a guess that you can probably use it to turn Ghosts into explosive blood ballons.

It’s good that they’re still releasing content that should’ve been in there in the first place.

I recently finished the game, and yeah, it was okay. Better than the first one IMHO, but not something I would rave about. I might give this DLC a looksee!
