Sniper Elite V2 may not have been everyone’s cup of tea last year, but hot damn, it was still pretty satisfying for those that got into it. It was all about squeezing that trigger and letting loose a full metal jacket of organ-splattering gore, captured perfectly in the game engine. And for the third game in the series, I hope that Rebellion and 505 Games find a way to make that feature even more satisfying.

Tag-teaming for a new sequel, Sniper Elite 3 will once again have players peering through a scope as OSS sniper Karl Fairburne, due for release next year.

“We’ve got some great ideas to improve on what we did before and feedback from fans has been invaluable,” said Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley to IGN.

Sniper Elite V2 was just the beginning of what we want to do with the franchise, there are things we didn’t have time to do before that we can really look at featuring this time.

We want to focus on making this latest incarnation of Sniper Elite more of a sandbox game but also build on the awesome X-Ray Kill Cam and the atmospheric World War II setting. We’re looking forward to seeing what Sniper Elite fans and gamers in general make of the latest chapter in the story.

That sounds like a solid idea. One aspect of Sniper Elite V2 that was sorely in need of some redesign, were the basic character mechanics. They felt stiff and sluggish, especially when players had to ditch the sniper rifle and get up close and personal with a different approach that required them to get past overwhelming numbers.

And with a logo that hints towards Fairburne engaging in activities in Afrika, this is something that Rebellion and 505 will need to work on the most, especially if they’re aiming for a sandbox experience. But that sublime kill-shot idea from V2? That doesn’t need to be improved at all.

Sniper Elite 3 is scheduled for release next year on PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and “next-gen platforms”.

  1. You know what, I’m excited. I reviewed Sniper Elite V.2, and it’s one of those few games that actually grows on you with the passing of time. Not the prettiest of games, a little rough around the edges, but a decent title. I’ll be keen to scope out sniper elite 3.

A sandbox game in the African desert, how fitting. I never got around to the first two but the youtube vids looked cool. Hope I’ll be able to get this one.

True that…sneaky sniping is more fun!

Ive also played the PC only Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army, it was released a few weeks back, really fun game too, but with the zombies there is absolutely no stealth, but never less its a lekker game with a co-op partner.

Im quite keen to get the new Sniper Ghost Warrior 2, looks like a more stealth aimed experience.

I loved SE V2, some of the slow mo shots and X-ray cams really enforce that “I’d like to never be shot by a sniper” feeling.

I did have one very memorable shot I’m compelled to share, although I’ve never been able to duplicate…

Moving target, long range, shot 3 fingers off the guy before hitting him in the neck.

I love Sniper Elite V2, cant wait for 3.. just hope one has a wider variety of rifles to choose from. Some real heavy stuff.. I would also want the ballistics to be a bit more real.. Anyway, would be one of the 1st to buy it.
