Why we don’t have Beyond Good and Evil 2 yet

I don’t think I’ve ever been so conflicted in my life. I’ve been waiting what seems like FOREVER for a sequel to last gen’s underrated, underappreciated delight of a game, Beyond Good and Evil. Production on the sequel is being held up by that of another game that I love…Rayman.

Legendary designer Michel Ancel has wanted to continue work on Beyond Good and Evil 2, but has been caught “doing too many things at the same time,” Ubisoft Boss Yves Guillemot told Polygon.

“He was working on Rayman Origins last year, and he’s working a lot on Rayman Legends this year. So, you know, when he does that, he kind of puts too much of his time on the other projects that he has. So the fact is, that working on Legends is slowing the process on Beyond Good & Evil 2.”

Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced in 2008 – and has been stuck in limbo pretty much ever since. We’ve seen some art, a video or two and little else. It is, however, expected to be a next-generation project, beyond the scope of today’s console’s capabilities.

Rayman Legends will be out next year, within the Wii U’s launch window. After that, hopefully Ancel will get back to work on BGE2.
