So who else was taken by surprise by the sudden announcement of Grand Theft Auto 5 yesterday?
There wasn’t a murmur of a big announcement and I had literally just finished seeing the local Rockstar distributors minutes before the announcement and I can confidently say they didn’t have a clue what was about to happen.
But you know who might have known that yesterday was a pretty big day indeed? Our old friend Jack Thompson.
Yes the GTA IV hater himself who allowed the game to rile him up so much that he turned into a blithering mad man and actually ended up being disbarred from the Florida bar.. 3 years ago exactly to the day of the GTA V announcement.
Would Rockstar seriously time an announcement just to get under Jack Thompson’s skin like that?
Well yes I believe the masters of media manipulation and marketing wouldn’t have not realised the significance of the day that their biggest critic was thrown out of his profession.
To be precise Jack Thompson’s disbarment order was actually signed on the 25th of September but it didn’t come into force until 30 days later which was the 25th of October 2008.
Yeah isn’t it amazing we haven’t really heard from mad Jack in 3 years, the gaming industry is a less colourful place thanks to the logic and sensibility of the Florida Bar.
