Xbox Series X: True 8K gaming, hardware accelerated sound and plenty of next-gen all packed into one attractive boom box of a console. Hot damn I am going to play the heck out of some old games on that beast of a machine!

So what’s next for the franchise and Gran Turismo Sport in particular? With the PlayStation 5 on the way and rumours of TRUE 8K POWER doing the rounds, it’s not hard to imagine Gran Turismo Sport aiming for retina-searing resolutions. Not so, says producer Kazunori Yamauchi! The man behind the franchise has his eyes set on a higher goal currently, as he’s convinced that the future of games looking damn good lies not in the number of pixels on the screen but rather at the rate they throw them at your face.

Seeing as how the PS5 and Xbox Series X are preparing to land this year, you’d probably think that the next console war will be fought with resolutions over features, future-proofed machines that aim to increase the pixel count thrown at your eyeballs if your budget can afford the TV for it. For the Xbox Series X, that’s not entirely the case as that console will be aiming its power at something far more important: Resolution!

Sony and Fujifilm still lead the way in this arena, but Canon’s recent efforts are nothing to sneeze at. The EOS M5 and M6 are still a hell of a camera duo, but the company is already looking to the future for their next flagship device which according to leaks will be the Canon EOS R5.

I think it’s quite safe to say that society as a whole hasn’t quite yet embraced 4K. Moist consumers are still happy enough with good old 1080p content, not quite willing to shell out the big bucks just yet to play games and watch media in delicious super high resolution. TV manufacturers, however, are already starting to push even higher resolutions – with both LG and Samsung trying to temp customers over to 8K.

“Power and performance you can feel, defines Project Scarlett,” said Xboss Phil Spencer of the console whose future lies in the cloud. Shown off at E3 2019, not too much detail was revealed but what was streamed out of the Nokia Center wasn’t just a single device. It was an ecosystem that will connect across consoles and ecosystems.

Sony has always had a terrific line of cameras, with the A series being especially impressive stuff. Ticking all the right boxes, Sony’s beastly devices have always been especially good at providing 4K videographers with a device that suit their needs. The Japanese company might be looking to future-proof their upcoming line of cameras, as current reports indicate that Sony is going big with an 8K sensor.
