The Joker is Gotham’s hero in the upcoming Batman: White Knight

What if the only person standing between the dark knight and his ruthless battle to take back the streets of Gotham was his greatest nemesis? That’s the setup for Batman: White Knight, which stars the former clown prince of crime in a quest to take down the Batman. The only difference this time? The Joker isn’t killing people with toxic laughing gas or threatening to poison Gotham’s water supply with his homebrewed poisons. Because he’s completely sane after his latest stint at Arkham Asylum, and no longer has a maniacal urge to murder.

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight is the next DC animated movie

The next film from the DC library revives the style of Batman: The Animated Series with its breakout star, Harley Quinn. A team-up between Batman, Nghtwing and Harley Quinn to put a stop to Poison Ivy and the Floronic Man’s latest world domination plans, it looks alright. Or better than Batman: The Killing Joke at least, which set a bar so low last year that you can’t even limbo underneath it. That particular film is out n August 15. After that? A more Victorian slice of Batman, as it looks like the cult classic 1989 Elseworlds graphic novel is finally getting some animated love.

While the bulk of the tale will be contained in the six Dark Knights issues, the Dark Days, Batman one-shots and plenty of other familiar heroes will help fill in any gaps.

DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation are celebrating ten years of animated movies by collecting every film into one massive boxset. That’s 30 animated movies, as well as the five DC Showcase short films that make the most of their brief running time: The Spectre, Green Arrow, Jonah Hex, Catwoman and Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam.
