Bethesda has been on a roll. Not only have their games maintained a level of quality, they’ve also been popping out onto shelves more regularly. I’m starting to think that they’re feeling the pressure of being more consistent, of trying to find a balance between quality and quantity. It’s not an impossible task, but it is one that is fraught with peril if even one game is lacklustre upon release.

Welcome to Bethesdaland! Bethesda’s strange E3 event took on the guise of a theme park again – and once again they showed off just a small handful of new and interesting things.

Only one man stood between a Nazi world and the people suffering underneath the jackbooted heel of this new Reich: BJ Blazkowicz, two-fisted soldier extraordinaire. While BJ may not have saved the day entirely in The New Order, his single act of defiance did light a spark of rebellion. Rebellion which has erupted into a massive flame in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

Dishonored was a fine game when it was first released a couple of years ago, but it was strangely even finer with its range of downloadable content that featured a new assassin under the mask. Duad was his name, and killing was his game as he was forced to deal with all manner of arcania in his own personal quest. Many years later, and it appears that the legendary knife of Dunwall hasn’t lost his edge.

Yes, you heard me. Fallout 4. In VR. Virtually real. Bethesda’s Fallout franchise and VR have been linked together for ages, but nothing concrete between the two has really been shown either than a few words here and there. It looks like the wait was worth it however, as Bethesda has double-confirmed that the full Fallout 4 experience is indeed running in VR.

Last year’s revival of DOOM wasn’t just a nostalgic romp through the past: It was brutal, gory and featured plenty of reward for anyone who favoured a speedy kill. Simply put, the best first-person shooter of the year even when it was faced with some stiff competition. That the DOOM of 2016. For 2017, Bethesda is giving their premiere FPS a VR face-lift with DOOM VFR.
