Prey review – A tense and frustrating psychological horror
Prey's strong setting and sense of dread are undercut by its wavering combat and an ultimately disappointing story.

If you feel like you’ve got fingers with the grace of a sledgehammer, then you’re most likely having a hard time breaking into the myriad safes and personal computers in Prey. Fortunately, there’s an easier way to actually slide in and pilfer the goods: Presing CTRL+F and highlighting what you’re looking for in this handy list of safe keycodes and passwords.
Bethesda no longer doles out pre-release review copies, but reviews for Arkan's prey are starting to trickle out. According to critics, Prey is the System Shock successor we've been waiting for.
Prey is a game of survival and psychosis, a tale of never trusting the shadows you see out the corner of your eyes. If you played the demo, you’d have realised that seeing the light of another day isn’t exactly a given. You could persevere through and finish the game via the ol’ traditional methods. Or, and hear me out here, you could make use of an exploit present inside of Prey to get your hands on infinite materials for crafting.
Archaic controls aside, Morrowind was an achievement not only in storytelling but in atmosphere as well. Harsh and unforgiving, the third core chapter of the Elder Scrolls made solitude a danger and the mountains menacing. Every layer of Morrowind managed to combine into something that few games were capable of being at the turn of the century: An experience. 16 years later, and it’s finally time to return to Vvardenfell. I’ve had my ass handed to me in the new PvP Battlegrounds arena, barely survived an Ashlander ambush and wiped out badly with a group of optimistic adventurers in the Halls of Fabrication. It’s good to be home.
Not yet sure what to make of the new Prey? Bethesda is opening up the first hour of the game later this month to help change your mind.
What’s a first-person game without a few gadgets huh? Guns, tools and gizmos baby. That’s what I’m here for, and Prey doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint on the one front that my dormant Charlton Heston genes are craving. Here’s the latest trailer that shows off vanilla heads-up displays, menus (SO EXCITING) and useful household tools like a Greenpeace grenade that recycles everything within its radius back into atoms. Handy.
A good loot box never feels like a coupon. It feels like a moment. …
A spooky European village. Properly scary castle mania. Vampires. Werewolves! The only thing more frightening, is a glimpse at your empty bank account when it comes to deciding whether or not you can grab Resident Evil Village this month. Capcom's successor to its long-running survival-horror franchise is finally out, and if you've read our review then you know the game is a winner on multiple levels.
