Even with controversy knocking on its door and its reputation taking a serious hit in the aftermath of the Cyberpunk 2077 launch, CDPR’s financials are looking better than ever thanks to sales of the beleaguered RPG.
With all hands on deck currently to fix the current mess that CDPR’s leadership pushed out, the big boss of the studio is still optimistic that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a consistent seller for years to come.
Cyberpunk 2077’s launch last year was something that experts would call “less than ideal”, with years of promotional build-up dropping the ball harder than an amateur juggler being tossed a live chainsaw during a circus act. Developer CD Projekt Red is looking to avoid a cock-up of that magnitude in the future, as the company’s strategy for future game releases is to spend less time on hype.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 still in a rough state currently, plagued by bugs and devoid of certain promised content? Absolutely. Will the game get better in time? Probably, as CD Projekt Red has been hunkering down to bring the ambitious dystopian sandbox up to speed in the wake of an infamous launch. Those updates will take time though, and in an ironic twist, even longer thanks to some real-life cyber punks hacking into CDPR’s servers and running off with valuable source code to the game.
CDPR isn’t taking the heist lying down. The company has been using the power of DMCA notices to those trying to share the code online, a tactic that’s usually reserved for stopping Metallica from playing its own music during a BlizzCon stream. For whom the bell lols.
