E3 2019 may not have too many games to show off this year but…Actually wait that’s pretty much it. There’s no half-ass joke here folks. I’ve half-assed the half-assery. I’ve basically gone whole-ass. Anyway, As is the usual every year, the Game Critics Awards pop up and declare their best of show nominees, with a list of winners following shortly afterwards.

There's no disputing it; E3 was weird this year. Not because Sony didn't want to party, or Microsoft didn't take the chance to steal the spotlight. Not because there weren’t great games on show, or a small number of them. It just felt all too predictable, without a concrete look at the horizon of games that is expected to dawn with new console hardware. But E3 was still home to some notably strong titles that are set to make the next 12 months incredibly interesting, especially when you consider most of the games on show this year should be out by then. From futuristic role-playing games to haunted houses and plumbers, here are the best games we saw at the show this year.

With an April 2020 release date on the horizon, it's great to have a better idea of what type of game Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be. It's easy to be reductive and call it a prettier immersive sim in the vein on Deus Ex, but it's looking to introduce a far more fleshed out paths for you to play the way you want, when you want.

While Cybperunk 2077 will be a proper single-player game through and through, CD Projekt Red isn’t averse to adding some form of multiplayer to the game provided that it doesn’t interfere with work on their primary focus.

Cyberpunk 2077 was easily one of the biggest titles on show at E3 again this year, with a whole new 45-minute behind closed doors demo showing off some of the improvements CD Projekt Red have made in the past year. Along with the reveal of Keanu Reeves as a central character (playing Johnny Silverhand) and an April 2020 release date, the biggest change introduced to the RPG is the ability to play the entire story without killing anyone.

Cyberpunk 2077’s controversial ray-tracing image is commentary on corporate influence

Cyberpunk 2077: It looks stunning, it made Keanu Reeves more breath-taking than usual and already has some controversy attached to it. Screenshots of the game that featured light dancing on surfaces hit the scene, although one image drew criticism for featuring a transgender woman in a super-duper-sexualised in-game advertising poster.
