The ambassador of comic books and movie cameos was as lovable as could be, even in the twilight years of his life. Always smiling, always spinning a story or two and always being a beacon of positivity. If Stan Lee was an influence on the hearts and minds of many of the people who would go on to redefine entertainment, then he was the kind of inspiration that almost no one could speak ill of after he had died. Almost no one.

With his passing, Stan Lee’s own story may be over but the legend he created will live on forever as the comic book industry paid their respects to a man who was a mentor, an inspiration and most importantly, a friend.

Stanley Martin Lieber, known to true believers all over the world as Stan Lee, had died. The co-creator of a vast chunk of Marvel’s Silver Age of comics, Stan Lee helped usher in new comic book characters such as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the Incredible Hulk when he worked alongside artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko in the 1960s.

Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog and Durham Red proved to be prog-sellers of the highest calibre, and they all shared something in common: Carlos Ezquerra. Not just an artist with a distinctly gritty art style, Ezquerra was a creator and a writer of many a tale in 2000AD’s long history and he helped define the look of its more iconic characters.

Sadly, Norm Breyfogle’s story has come to an end as the talented artist passed away this week. He was only 58 years old.
