Held annually (most of the time, provided that certain countries aren’t busy with yet another civil war), the Dakar Rally is a madman’s event. Treacherous rocks, dangerous sands and a course designed to test the mettle of any driver are just some of the neat features present in this yearly offroad extravaganza. Wouldn’t that make for a great video game? Yes, yes it would. Which is exactly what Bigmoon Entertainment and Deep Silver/Koch Media are planning to do, with DAKAR 18.

There’s nothing I’m seeing in Agents of Mayhem that makes it look like a revolution in sandbox action, and that’s OK. Sometimes you don’t need a game which pushes boundaries. Sometimes you just need something which is solid, capable and fun for an afternoon. If Agents of Mayhem can accomplish that, I’ll honestly be happy. Especially with its cast of characters.

So what’s the point? Well Agents of Mayhem is pretty much Saints Row for this generation, but set “in a distant future in which the only hope for governments and global corporations ... are a group of corporately funded super agents called the Agents of Mayhem”. Yup, that sounds like a spiritual successor to me. One that’ll be out on August 15 in the US and August 18 in European territories according to its latest A-Tem themed trailer. I love it when a plan comes together.
