After months of not giving a damn, I’m now sat at my desk just wishing I was playing Far Cry 5. There’s a certain enigmatic charm to Hope County’s unhinged hillbillies and sociopathic religious zealots, and I can’t wait to kick the stuffing out of them.

For a long time, I’ve been down on Far Cry 5. “It’s just more of the same,” I’d mutter to myself under my breath whenever anybody on our team showed any interest in the game. I’ve played and loved all of the previous ones (yes, even Far Cry Primal) and loved them all, but I’ve just been burned out on the formula, and open world games in general. Joseph Seed made a believer out of me.

The week ahead and beyond has some chuffing good releases on the horizon. The biggest names on the list below include Ubisoft’s zealot-shooter Far Cry 5, Rare’s return in Sea of Thieves and co-op puzzle escape game A Way Out. Far Cry 5 is well aware of what it has to offer to veterans who expect a certain style of gameplay within its structure. At the same time though, this latest chapter is making an effort to expand on the familiar, to leverage its strengths in new directions.

Far Cry 5 is leaning heavier on the craziness ahead of its launch, in a manner that would make Vaas Montenegro proud as its Arcade mode will allow players to drop plenty of assets from ye olde Ubisoft games such as Watch Dogs_2 and Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag into its map editor.

Heavy, yet light. Thoughtful yet bombastic. It’s a caveat of video games, because that’s just how they are. That’s how games like Far Cry 5 are structured, as they need to not only tell a good story, but give players of multiple demographics something fun to play.
