Deathloop, a timey-wimey assassin-em-up game where you need eyes in the back of your head lest they be blinded with a well-placed bullet, is going to be a little bit late to the party.

What was scheduled to be a month of high profile releases has seen many a game slip towards another later date thanks to that viral guy. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t some gems to look forward to though! The Wonderful 101 are back, Borderlands joins BioShock for a full circle release on Nintendo Switch and it’s time to live your life 402.336 meters at a time in an official Fast and/or Furious game. None of that American measuring here, thank you very much. Here’s what you can look forward to in May.

Driving, soccer and AN UNMERCILESS CRUSADE TO DRIVE THE ENEMIES OF MANKIND BACK INTO THE EYE OF TERROR ALL HAIL THE GOD EMPEROR! Yeah, May looks alright on the free games side. Xbox Live’s carrot on the stick offering of free monthly games may have diminished somewhat as the Game Pass service has grown over the last couple of years, but here’s a look at what you’ll be able to grab for free come the best month of the year.

I’ve largely stopped carting about the games that come with Xbox Live’s Games With gold and the PlayStation Instant game collection. That sheen is especially missing when the collection of gratis games is middling or just not for me.

The US games retail-tracking company the NPD has released its figures for last month, showing that Sony’s PlayStation 4 remains the best-selling console in the US. As is usual, their analysis includes hardware, physical copies of games sold at retail, and some (but not all!) games sold digitally.

With E3 around the corner, May is usually more barren than my fan club on any given day. That’s not to say that there aren’t any games coming out, but the biggest guns are usually reserved for the months following the annual gaming extravaganza. Where one side of the industry refrains from going all out, another side takes the opposite approach as this year’s May-day celebration is crammed to say the least.

May’s PlayStation Plus line-up isn’t too shabby. The first game to grace the instant game collection is the PS4 remaster of the PS3 original Beyond: Two Souls. The better game is Rayman Legends though.

We’re in the last week of April, which means it’s time for Microsoft to reveal the games that’ll be included in the monthly Games with Gold offering. This month’s games were entirely decent, with Jonathan Blow’s brain-busting puzzle adventure The Witness and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate headlining. Of course, the real gem is the backwards compatible Dead Space 2. May’s selection of games may be better.
