We told you yesterday that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was getting a patch in the next few days, and that it would likely stop the infamous 725 Shotgun from being quite as lethal at long range as it has been. It would also likely reduce the damage caused by the overpowered M4A1 rifle. Well, that patch is now live, and it’s done both of those things, along with a lot more.
While I’ve not had as much time to spend playing this year’s Call of Duty as I’d like, it’s a pretty damned good game. The single player, while having a bit of a jingoist, hokey story, tells that story exceptionally well, The multiplayer has – for the most part – gone down exceptionally well, bringing new and lapsed players back to Call of Duty.

Modern Warfare might just be the reset key to the entire franchise, the new template from which a decade’s worth of Call of Duty is based, just like the original Modern Warfare was so many years ago when it rewrote the book on cinematic first-person action and propelled video games into the mainstream spotlight.
