The hugely popular DC Comics fighting game will be the focus of Warner Bros.'s next direct-to-video animated film release!

Last week, Bandai Namco and NetherRealm Studios announced that they would no longer be working with new esports organisation WePlay, which has recently begun hosting Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11, and Soulcalibur VI tournaments with some BIG prize money involved. Both companies posted statements declaring buzzword reasons for not wanting to do business with WePlay, which began making a name for itself last year as it organised in-person fighting game tournaments.

Developer NetherRealm kickstarted a new tradition with the rebirth of their prime franchise, as the studio would alternate their work on not only Mortal Kombat but also their superhero showdown brawler Injustice. 2011’s Mortal Kombat was followed by the first Injustice game, while Mortal Kombat X saw the second Injustice game arrive hot on its heels. So where’s Mortal Kombat 11 then? According to some rumours, it’s due for a reveal very soon.

After the utter disaster that was the PC port of Mortal Kombat X, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Software get a second crack at fighting games on PC with Injustice 2. So have they finally nailed it the formula?

An open beta for the Mortal Kombat XL's multiplayer has surfaced on Steam. It’ll be running all weekend until 10:00am PDT on August the 29th (via Destructoid).
