Microsoft’s recently opened up its chest of games, and after the moths flew out, they took some of those games and gave them to Nintendo. Two of the platforms best indie games, Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest are now Switch games. They’re both wonderful games, frustrating for different reasons – but two of Microsoft’s best games. And possibly the last of Microsoft’s games on other platforms.
Maybe you have some of them on your Spotify playlist, maybe you’ve gone and actually bought a limited edition LP to help support developers. It’s safe to say though, that over the last couple of years that indie games have been responsible for some of the best video game soundtracks around. No longer content to pump out generic jams, but rather scores of albums which create auditory magic across a wide variety of themes and genres. Here’s a look then, at ten soundtracks that deserve to be left on shuffle.
Microsoft may be on to something with their Game Pass service, an all you can play buffet service of games that are constantly being added and rotated out. It’s a cheap as chips subscription, it’s home to smaller games and it has day one access to first-party Xbox One games to boot. That’s not too shabby, and like most services of its ilk, it lives and dies on its content. Said content is getting a few heavy-hitters soon, as Microsoft announced sixteen new entries to the Game Pass library.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps maintains the tough as nails platforming and combat as the original, but brings in some innovative new abilties to help make them feel fresh again.
