The least-liked generation of pocket monsters has long been dormant since its release on the Nintendo DS back in 2007, but it’s finally time for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl to get a second chance at life! Nintendo announced that the Sinnoh region of games will be headed to the Nintendo Switch this year, as brand-new and faithful remakes titled Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokemon games have always felt like they took part in some magical future with bleeding edge technology that could be used to store living gods inside of a convenient pokeball, but for the next game in the series? Nintendo and developer Game Freak are looking to explore the origin of the species. The Pokemon Company showed off Pokemon Legends Arceus, a game set in a feudal era version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl’s Sinnoh region.

Personally, I feel like everyone that started Pokemon Sword and Shield off with Sobble as their starter pocket monster should be arrested but that’s just me.

The Pearl and Diamond remakes will also be a more traditional Pokémon game with capture mechanics more closely tied to the original games that the Pokémon Go-inspired systems present in the Let’s Go and Sword/Shield games that have appeared on the Nintendo Switch so far.

Good for a single weekend or several weeks of grinding to catch all the Temtem, developer Crema’s RPG is a worthy challenger to the pocket monster throne, and it’s only going to get better from here until the day it’s ready for a full release.
