Just a few months ago, Valve decided to crack down on adult-themed games on Steam, removing a hefty chunk of games with sexually explicit themes. The company eventually backtracked on that plan, saying that it would only ban games that were illegal or trolling. Now they’re letting explicit sex games on the digital storefront. They’ve now allowed the first sexually explicit game on the store.

The UK has been cracking down on pornography for ages now, in a bid to limit children’s access to obscene material. In 2016, the UK announced that it planned to enforce mandatory age verification sites that display pornographic material. One of ther ways people will be able to verify their ages is by buying a "porn pass" from a newsagent.

One website taking a hard (heh) stand against the surge in revenge porn and deepfakes? Streaming giant Pornhub, that announced this week that they’ll be flatout banning any deepfake content.

Google’s Play Store is a mess. While it’s often touted as a beacon of freedom when contrasted against Apple’s more walled-garden approach, it is filled with hundreds upon thousands of garbage apps that at best are rubbish, and at worst are stuffed with hidden malware, dodgy in-app payments or bad adverts.

Last week, Checkpoint Security released a report detailing bit of malware that was hidden inside a number of apps readily available on the Google Play Store. Dubbed AdultSwine, the malware was found on the Play Store, hidden inside of a number of games and apps aimed at children – and were downloaded between 3 and 7 million times.

While porn is often seen as the domain of lecherous men, one of Pornhub’s biggest search terms in 2017 was “Porn for Women,” which saw a 1400% increase. Also popular for some ungodly reason? Rick and Morty porn parodies.

Maybe you’ve heard of it. Maybe you haven’t, but it’s not as if the developer hasn’t been spending some coin on marketing their upcoming sandbox which apparently looks like a better version of Crackdown. Standard marketing can only go so far of course, with the very crowded halls of YouTube only providing so many eyeballs at any given time on a video. What’s a developer to do? Head for greener pastures of course.
