Activision has a few more of those remasters up its sleeves. With the publisher having scant few properties under its belt other than Call of Duty right now, Activision has realised that there’s some big money to be made when they give the past a face-lift. In a recent Q&A session that the company held with its voracious stockholders as they discussed the financial earnings for the 2nd Quarter, Activision president Rob Kostich detailed how their current remasters had done well on a critical and a financial level.

In an industry where the run ‘n gun style of the mainstream granddaddy of first-person shooters are seen as a nostalgia act, does the pixelated pain of ripping a demon in half still manage to grab your attention with its ancient visuals and keycard-heavy gameplay? You bet your buns it does.

Batman Beyond mixed a fresh new future-retro style with character development and a brand new rogues gallery, eventually culminating in the best Batman movie of all time, Return of the Joker. That series has largely been relegated to DVD bins since it finished airing in 2001, but almost two decades later and the show is getting a fresh new coat of high definition paint.

The year has been a treat for strategy game fans so far, hasn’t it? They Are Billions is now fully realised, Conan Unconquered is putting its own spin on the survival RTS sub-genre and later this month sees squad tactics on the go with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. There’s another older game on the horizon that I’m chomping at the bit to get my teeth on, now that it has some remaster sizzle to it: Command and Conquer.

Rumours are running rampant that a new Ape Escape could be on the way to coincide with the series’ 20th anniversary.
