Picture the scene: You're up early, you decide to get some shopping done, and you head on down to ye olde supermarket, only to be met by a horde of fidgety dudes at the front door, hungry for a fresh drop of Pokemon cards which can then be scalped online for grossly-inflated prices. That's the reality which Instagram user tcg_grassi and Twitter user bigcards30 shared over the weekend, as a Walmart in Pennsylvania saw a small mob of folks rush inside the store to score some of that sweet poke-loot.

Microsoft is looking to deal a killing blow to scalpers, and is trying out a new program called the Console Purchase Pilot.

So what’s the next big score? McDonalds. Freakin’ McDonalds Happy Meals.

Back to the drawing board then, as the store’s new plan is to only sell PS5 consoles to people using the store’s credit card plan, randomising when consoles go on sale, and asking staff to use their better judgement when making a sale.

One of the most exciting consoles coming this year isn’t the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X. Who needs bleeding edge graphical powerhouse machines when you’ve got handheld consoles that already have a library of established excellence? That’s the idea behind the Analogue Pocket, which finally went on sale yesterday. And within eight minutes, was completely sold out.

Remember how Nintendo said that they weren’t making any more NES Classic Mini, and that once they were done, they were done? Remember how the price of the things shot up on places like eBay, that people were able to scalp the things and make a sizeable profit? they'll be back in stores next year.

The biggest failing of the NES Classic wasn’t ludicrously short controller cables but the lack of units that Nintendo produced. Online marketplace eBay was indeed flooded with units bought by less scrupulous people, who inflated the price to Cape Town real estate prices and much like those gentrification bastards, got away with it. That’s a problem that the SNES Classic Mini is likely to not have, as Nintendo is promising “dramatically increased” stock.
