Rape Day won’t be released on Steam

A developer looking to court controversy got it when news of his game, Rape Day, hit the internet. The adult visual novel would allow players to “verbally harass, kill, and rape women as you choose to progress the story.” Valve has now denied the game's release on Steam.

I may be imagining this, but couch co-op seems to be on the rise again. While it’s definitely still sitting in the hospital recovering from the devastating wound online multiplayer inflicted upon it, it seems to be trying to open its eyes again and asking for a glass of water from the nurse who’s just so happy to see it coming to. There’s something special about couch co-op that can’t be captured by a long distance internet connection.

“Rape Day” tests the boundaries of Valve’s “hands off” approach to Steam

Last year, Valve’s ubiquitous digital PC game storefront went through a few changes. Steam was lambasted for prudishly removing games and visual novels that featured sexual content, and as a result decided to take a more hands-off approach to content curation. Valve decided that it shouldn’t be deciding what’s morally right or wrong. They did, however, draw the line at games that were games that were illegal or “straight up trolling.”

Here’s an interesting story that’s doing the rounds, as self-described hybrid FPS/RTS game Eximius: Seize the Frontline happens to have received a DMCA takedown notice. That’s not exactly unusual, with many games on Steam receiving those notices for a wide variety of reasons. What makes it odd, is that Eximius received this notice…from its own development team.
