Backed into a corner in the penultimate issue of Dark Nights Metal #5, things are looking pretty grim for the heroes of a world that faces a new kind of danger. The Dark Multiverse rises, our reality sinks and an army of evil Batmen have run amok as the Justice League was picked apart. I cannot emphasis enough just how important a good comic book cover is. It’s the first thing you see on a shelf, a splash page of colours and action. Not only does a comic book cover need to draw your gaze, it needs to reinforce the character it’s supporting and clue you in on the action inside of it. Imagine a universe where the trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman were even more…wholesome. Because that’s the idea that’ll be present in the upcoming JLA/Young Animal: Milk Wars event. Overseen by Gerard Way, the brief event will consist of five one-shots that features the icons taking on RetCo, a corporation that spans across the multiverse and repackages realities to better suit the tastes of their audiences who are watching. RetCo does just that with the trinity of heroes, resulting in the most Americana of reimaginings: Superman is now Milkman-Man, Batman has become the oprhan-adopting padre known as Father Bruce and Wonder Woman has been reduced to the ideal American housewife straight out of the Stepford Wives. Horrifying stuff.
