Local PS4 street date broken

2 min read

Like the rest of you, we’re waiting patiently for our PS4’s to arrive later this week, but it seems that a few retailers have already jumped the gun, selling the console before its intended release date on Friday.

We’ve had a few people inform us that some Game stores, along with other retailers were selling the PS4, but lacked any sort of concrete evidence. Now, thanks to local forum SAgamer, we have some concrete proof that at least one store has released early: House and Home.

User Elmo1980 posted a scan of a receipt, dated yesterday, for a PlayStation 4 – selling at the Recommended Retail Price of R6299.

If you want a PlayStation 4, right now, then the Sandton House and Home is probably a good option. Of course, this sucks for all the dedicated gamers who placed and paid for pre-orders months ago. It’s not exactly a cheap product, and few people have the expendable income to cancel their pre-orders, wait for refunds and pick up a PS4 right now. It also puts quite a damper on the organised, local launch events.

It is, of course, not the first time that local street dates have been broken, pissing off people who pre-order but this time it’s with rather expensive, rather anticipated hardware.

If you;ve picked up a PS4 at a local retailer, ahead of launch, let us know in the comments. If you’re somebody who’s pre-ordered, and has to wait until delivery let us know if you’re pissed off.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
