Sony’s just had a Japan-focused, Vita-centric event – and in addition to a couple of rather Japanese exclusive games coming to the system, the big news is that the Vita has finally received a price cut.

According to Sony Japan’s “Vita Heaven” livestream, both current models of the Vita are set to received a pretty substantial price cut; they’ll shed around 5000 Yen (or R475) from their current prices, making them just a little more tempting.

The price cut could possibly pave the way for a newly updated Vita that includes 4G connectivity and an HDMI out. There’s been no similar announcement of a cut in English-speaking climes, but I suspect there could be one n the horizon – and the sooner it comes, the better for the Vita, and Sony as a whole.

I’ve maintained that the Vita needed two things to succeed: a price cut, and a bunch of games. Now it’s time for Sony to step up and show of the games.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
